Overview

The Boustany Astronomy Scholarship supports exceptional individuals wishing to pursue research that will advance scientific knowledge of space and the universe.

With history dating back to 1823, the Institute of Astronomy at Cambridge University is globally acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost institutes.  Scholarship recipients become members of Pembroke College, the third oldest and one of the most highly regarded colleges.

The Boustany Astronomy PhD Scholarship is granted once every three years, for a PhD course at The Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge University.

The Scholarship offers the following:
• All tuition and college fees
• Travel and accommodation expenses related to the internship.

The next Scholarship will be awarded for the class commencing Autumn 2028.

The IoA is a department of the University of Cambridge and is engaged in teaching and research in the fields of theoretical and observational Astronomy.

A wide class of theoretical problems are studied, ranging from models of quasars and of the evolution of the universe, through theories of the formation and evolution of galaxies and stars, X-ray sources and black holes…

Scholarship Details

Although the Scholarship can be awarded to candidates of any nation, priority will be given to candidates of Lebanese descent.

Over the summer, scholars are expected to complete a two-month unpaid internship in at our office in Monaco. During the internship, scholars will work on either increasing awareness about the Foundation, designing or proposing new Scholarships, or working on other initiatives that further the vision of the Boustany Foundation.

The exact project scope will be determined on the first day of the internship and can be driven by scholar interests as well.

The Scholarship is offered to an outstanding and highly-meriting candidate of any nationality who must have an excellent academic background.

Candidates must also fulfill the admissions requirements of the Institute and show exceptional ability and promise.

If shortlisted, you will be invited to one or more interviews with the Foundation and one candidate will be awarded the Scholarship.

Deadline for the submission of candidacy: 28th February 2028.

The Scholarship will be awarded during the month of April 2028.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Foundation does not fund other PhD courses in Astronomy or Philosophy at other Universities.

The scholarship is fully funded, covering all tuition and college fees at the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge University, as well as travel and accommodation expenses for the internship in Monaco.
